Argus Armstrong, Miracle Ship Repair

One man show featuring Argus Armstrong, a retired Privateer now working as a traveling salesman for Miracle Ship Repair ("If it’s a good job, it’s a Miracle!") Amy does a highly convincing performance as Argus, with theatrical beard and moustache, it is likely that at least half the audience never guesses that the actor is female. The comedy bits in the show revolve around the various repairs that the audience needs done to their "ships." "Now Sir, would ye be needing yer bottom tarred?" "Madam, when were the last time ye had yer hull inspected?" The show is safe and fun for the wee ones, yet bawdy enough to keep the adults in stitches. Argus fills out "work orders" for many of the audience members as souvenirs and also gives everyone a brief lesson in talking like a pirate and gives out one page pirate language sheets to enhance their Piratefest experience. In between stage shows, Argus takes to the streets of the faire, working the crowd with bits from the show, drumming up his audience for the next performance. So, you get a stage show and a street performer all in one!

Ballads and Runes

We give performances of Medieval Ballads, as well as storytelling of Folktales, Myths and Legends. When we create a performance, we take the utmost care to choose stories that speak on many different levels. Often stories can be performed for many different audiences i.e. children, youth, adults, we then adapt the rendering of the story to the audience. For this we use a combination of music, storytelling, theatre, mime and sometimes masks. We have performed for everything from groups of toddlers, big groups of children in schools, high schools, full night performances in theatres, senior centers, festivals, outdoors and indoors. We see each performance opportunity as a challenge to find the perfect combination of stories and music to enchant and thrill each member of the audience. I led a dance and theatre company in Sweden for 10 years before moving to New Mexico, USA in 2001. I received my education at the Lecoq School of Theatre and Mime in Paris, France and studied Classical Indian Dance in Chennai, India with wonderful teachers Savithri Jagannatha Rao and Kalanidhi Narayanan. Scott is a guitarist and composer. He performs his original music in our performances as well as arranges the traditional tunes we use.

Barleycorn Country Dancers

Group of peasants who perform English Country dancing on stage as well as in the street. We interact and teach dance to fair goers. We also enjoy ad-libbing with other actors and groups for the entertainment of fair patrons.

Bella Donna Venetian Courtesans is a performance troupe providing songs, instrumental music, and wit. We aim to educate about the fascinating world of the renowned Venetian courtesans – educated, talented and alluring women -- through our stage shows, songs and improvised skits. Anne Roos and her Celtic harp have delighted audiences at Renaissance Fairs, Celtic Festivals, and Highland Games for more than 25 years. Chris Caswell: Master of Celtic Arts

Chris is one of the world's finest players and makers of the Celtic Harp. He is also a respected performer of the Scottish bagpipes, Irish flute, tinwhistle and bodran. His music is informed by the Celtic lands, the Middle East and Latin America. He is a true Celtic bard and natural raconteur. He casts a bright spell through his intense and creative playing, songs, and stories. He obviously delights in performing. Background Beginning in 1976, Chris recorded three albums and toured North America and Europe with Robin Williamson and his Merry Band. In 1980 he formed Caswell Carnahan with Danny Carnahan and recorded two albums. He has a solo bronze strung harp album which is Holy Wood, and a new CD will be comng out in June called "Brightening Air." His "Celtic Tidings" is a well-loved Christmas CD. Chris is on over 30 recordings, including Bonnie Rideout's multi-award winning "Give me Elbow Room" and grammy-nominated "Kindred Spirits." Chris was a featured artist with Rideout's national Scottish Christmas tour and Live from the National Geographic in 1997. Chris was honored recently by an invitation from the Chieftains to perform with them in Santa Rosa at the Wells Fargo Center. Chris was a co-founder of the Sebastopol Celtic Festival. He has been national chairman of the Scottish Harp Society of America, and a member of the judge's panel of the Western United States Pipe Band Association. He studied pipes with Donald MacPherson at the College of Piping in Glasgow and later with Donald Shaw Ramsey. He was Pipe Major of the City of Petaluma Pipe Band. He studied harp with Allison Kinnaird in Edinburgh and worked with folklorist Peter Kennedy in Devon, England.

Istanpitta Early Music Ensemble

Istanpitta is a United States based ensemble performing music of the 10th to 14th century Middle Ages including many traditional Middle Eastern dance tunes. The ensemble consists of 3-5 musicians playing a variety of period instruments including oud, lute, saz, early percussion, shawms, recorders, transverse flutes, krummhorns, vielles, Medieval harp, bagpipes and voice. The ensemble performs live at formal concert venues, universities, and festivals.

La Voltige

La Voltige is an equestrian act involving gymnastics and dance on horses. We are portraying the period correct sport which was called la voltige during the Rennaissance and was used to train young nobles in horsemanship before they could progress to becoming knights. Our athletes are young and are portraying students of horsemanship. Our performances can be a simple demonstration/exhibition or a full performance.

MacAmergin's Tales

Epic & Humorous tales told in verse. Though all of my stories are appropriate for children, only a few are aimed at children. I like to say that I tell stories for Grown-ups. I also sell printed copies of my stories (hand bound in a period manner) much as many other performers sell CD's and Tapes.

Mezmeron Comedy Hypnotist

The Mezmeron show is a combination of comedy hypnosis, illusion, and mentalism. Fast paced, unpredictable, hilarious and suitable for all age groups. Mezmeron will make objects float in mid air, glue together audience members body parts with the power of their own minds, and even use his own mezmeronic powers to hypnotize his volunteers bending them to his will as they follow his every command as they dance and sing, forget their own names, fall in love with a faire damsel, and even sword fight upon the moon. Shows can run from 30 minutes to a full hour.

Molotov the Gypsy

Molotov the Gypsy is a sure-fire hit, as his crazy antics and outlandish stunts are sure to delight the crowds. He performs different shows throughout the day, so festival patrons can watch Molotov multiple times and see a new show. These entertaining performances are a hilarious mixture of magic, juggling, fire-eating, and wild stunts. Molotov has appeared at renaissance faires and historical festivals all over the United States. His familiarity and education with Elizabethean Era customs and other historical periods means he can blend seamlessly into your festival's environment. We do family oriented puppet shows using a combination of hand and shadow puppets. Our show this summer is about pirates, lasts 30-45 minutes, and includes traditional pirate songs and sea shanties, a positive moral for children and a humorous subtext(in good taste)for adults.

Privateers of the Dauntless

The "Privateers of the Dauntless" setup and an encampment that represents the Armed Merchant Ship "Dauntless.” We have constructed a elevated stage platform that resembles the after part for a square rigged ship from the main mast back. Also refered to as the Stern Castle. The Quarter Deck and Poop Deck is detailed in its planking and rigging. The main mast stands 50’ from the ground with two yard arms, sails and a working crow’s nest. Twin deck cannons and several swivel guns not only adorn the deck but are functional as well. We also carry and demonstrate various navigational tools such as the back staff, sandglass, traverse board, binical, logline and lead line. Our daily routine is intended give the illusion of a full ship with crew. Shifting of watches going aloft to the crow’s nest, bell sounding the time, cargo moving, commands barking out. Our sailors will be tending to their duties mending sails and lines, the carpenters making repairs and the purser conducting trade from the dock of our cargo. Our group is VERY patron interactive and particularly child friendly, as patrons are invited aboard the Dauntless to tour the ship. We interact with the patrons by demonstrating maritime skills and teaching maritime history as well as full on performances with live steel duels, ships navigation, and other maritime skills. Our group specifically leans away from the typical 1700 "pirate" persona (unless requested otherwise) and aspire to be more of a legitimate 16th century armed merchant. (Private Man-O-War) We are a theatrical troupe. We provide educational interaction and pre-event educational materials. (See our web site for more educational information). We do ask for a fee/donation for our performance, which is set well below market for similar performances and is used for logistics/transportation costs, liability insurance coverage, prop maintenance and new prop acquisition. All of the performers are volunteers; none of the performing troupe is compensated for their performances.

SEELEN FUNKEN is a pyro-theatre group based in Berlin,DE. We travel most of the summer, from one medieval festival to the next, throughout the Greater European Union (Northern & Southern Germany/Bayern,Sud Tirol,Italy, Austria, Switzerland,Netherlands..).I return to California every fall and stay through spring, and have been training local performers, to continue our traditions, on this side of the big blue pond;) ...an extension of our souls, so to speak. Shakespeare's Sisters are two women fully trained in classic theatre and Shakespearean acting, bringing the famous scenes of the Bard to life exactly the way he envisioned it-- full of robust comedy, high drama, action, and love. . . except, of course, that they're women, instead of men! As street performers, Shakespeare's Sisters will present modified scenes from the Canon of Shakespeare, as well as original sketch comedy adapted to the Shakesperean form. Think Abbot and Costello meets The Bard. . . and they're girls!

Siamsa le Cheile

SIAMSA le Cheile is a Scottish and Irish music and dance troupe based in Northern California. Our repertoire includes modern and old style traditional Irish step dance, sean-nos dance, Irish ceili, set, and barn dances, Scottish Highland, National, and Scottish Country dances, Cape Breton step dance, tunes from Ireland, Scotland, the Shetlands and Cape Breton, mouth music, and occasionally juggling. Sky Kings Falconry

I provide a free flying Birds of Prey program featuring hawks, owls, vultures and falcons. These programs are educational and highly entertaining. I like to focus on the natural history, and environmental contributions of these incredible animals. The shows often involve audience participation, and interaction. I also offer a version of the program that focuses on the Art of Falconry over the course of 5000 years.

Sound & Fury is a vaudeville-nouveau troupe of players, who present original comic plays. Using frequent audience participation and utter destruction of the 'fourth-wall,' Sound & Fury makes their works light & accessible, and non-threatening to a modern audience with limited attention spans. The Academy Players are a group of performers associated with the Noble Science Academy who work to put on plays and choreographed swordfights for the delight of the public. We place a strong emphasis on historical study and accuracy, and our swordplay is based on historical texts. The Noble Science Academy is also part of the HEMA Alliance, a registered educational non-profit with pending tax-exempt status.

The Bawdy Juggler

The Cottager Minstrels

We specialize in playing and singing period airs and dances for lute and voice. Trevor gingerly plays the eight-course lute whilst Mary soothes or excites with her dark, velvety voice or invigorates with the penny whistle.

The Daredevil Chicken Club

The Daredevil Chicken Club is a brass-necked slapstick experience. This husband and wife duo combines comedy with debauchery and interactive madness with circus stunts. A Russian Princess and her rapscallion husband have lost all their gold and taken up the mantle of street players to scratch out a living. A feast of comic proportions ensues!

Performing for renaissance festivals, corporate events, and educational programs throughout the US, The Duelists match wit & witticism, combat & comedy for a completely original and comedic take on dueling and swordsmanship. Using a variety of weapons—rapiers, daggers, longswords, axes, the halberd, mace, flail and more—Sir Randal and Sir Stephen perform exciting and dynamic swordfights as they provide instruction in ‘The Manly Art of the Epic Duel’ Always an interactive experience, The Duelists even invite hecklers to do their worst, but beware; their wit is as sharp as their swords, and hecklers will be promptly dealt with in kind!

The Juggling School consists of a red and yellow circus style tent (Underhill Pavillion), a master juggling instructor, Master Adam and several other instructors who endeaver to teach all those willing to learn a skill that lasts a lifetime.

The Knotty Stitchers

Two woman comedy act based on the history of the codpiece. Audience participates in the act. Use of "colorful" songs, props, and fast paced exchange between Poppy & Belladonna Titswillow make this a memorable experience for all. " We may be naughty, but we're not dirty!"

The Kondor Brothers

This is a real family event! Jonathan, now twelve years old, is the little brother and still the star of the show. With sibling rivalry banter, he shows off his incredible balance and juggling skills by working up in difficulty and height, eventually finishing balanced on his big brother's extended hands. He juggles knives and torches, when allowed, and up to six balls. Their cooperative juggling always leaves the audience awestruck, amazing peasants and Queen alike.

The Lacey Ravens (formerly Barleycorn Singers)

We are an all women vocal group performing a capella Medieval through Renaissance era music. Stage performances if required, but prefer performing in and around the fair in the streets. Our music is best used to add to the ambiance of a fair and to closely interact with the attendees of fair. Generally we do at least three sets a day, depending on available locations on the event grounds and attendee response. We go to sing, and we sing as much as we can!

The Nightwatch Renaissance Band

Renaissance Loud Band consisting of Shawms (renaissance oboes) and Sackbutts (renaissance trombones), as well as quite music on recorders and flutes. We play Renaissance music, on Renaissance instruments, in Renaissance style, wearing Renaissance costumes.

The Pirates Charles

Built on integrity and passion, The Pirates Charles’ music, lyrics, and performance starkly challenges the boundaries of Pub Rock, Pirate Music, and Gimmick Bands in general. Audiences find no fake swords or plastic hooks, but rather music and theatrics written out of love of the sea, historical conflict, and the romanticized piracy of literature and tradition. The group’s varying background in Rock, Jazz, and Symphony, Stage Theatre, Comedy, and the like have culminated into a theatrically diverse and musically engaging performance of war ballads, drinking songs, sea shanties, tales of exotic islands, and characters rich as the queen herself. Modern rock influence on old world music and a-capella work songs from the 1600-1800s pull audiences out of this time, and thrust them into a forgotten era of fantasy and adventure. Captain Diggity leads the charismatic bunch, and fans sing along with 6 part male vocal harmony, acoustic guitar and bass, mandolin, flute, with thunderous percussion and the eloquent wailing of the fiddle. Whether electric and amplified, or acoustic and a-capella, The Pirates Charles engage fans with passionate writing, vibrant attire, and loud personalities. Often practicing and writing music in front of a live audience, the group performs wherever they go, often transforming a perfectly normal day at the beach into a rock performance for hundreds of excited strangers. The Queen's Swordsmen is an exciting entertainment addition for any Renaissance Faire! We perform thrilling staged combat with broadswords, cut and thrust swords and rapiers - and every sword routine is performed as part of a rousing combat scene from a classic play by William Shakespeare. Between sword duels we present ourselves as two traveling Elizabethan players who have just left London to tour the country and show off our swordsmanship, as we engage in witty, sometimes bawdy, but always crowd-pleasing interaction with our audiences. Austin Smith is a proud man whose Indian-Scandinavian heritage helps to provides the thunderous beat with his mighty percussion assemblage.
